Dental Scaling and Root Planing For Gum Disease

Your gums will be sore for a few days to a week so you should treat them gently. You can expect to be told not to consume hot drinks or food until the numbness is gone. Let your body rest for a day. Brush and floss gently for the first week. 

Within a week, your gums should no longer be sore. There may be some sensitivity to heat, cold and sweets for a few weeks. This is normal. Finally, as your gums reattach firmly and closely to your teeth, you can know that you have done the best thing possible to reverse advanced gum disease.
