Meet the Staff: Issue 1

My name is Elaine and I am the receptionist at StarBrite Dental. You may remember me from a phone call or maybe when you checked in for your appointment at the office. I am a Washington, DC area "local," born and raised. This is unusual because so many people come from other areas to work in DC, Maryland or Virginia. I feel lucky to have been born in the Capital of the United States at the Columbia Hospital for Women.

When I was young, I went to a dentist who scared me to death. He seemed uncaring and it was not a pleasant experience. This set a bad attitude for me toward dentists. Although I did visit other dentists, I never found one who seemed to care, but just proceeded mechanically. Therefore, I did not visit the dentist as much as I should have. Then I was introduced to Dr. Seifi by a friend. This was a turning point in my experiences with dentists.

I first saw Dr. Seifi in 2005, and I was so surprised at the vast difference between her and my earlier dentists. We also had a common bond of having attended the same college – University of Maryland, College Park, so I also liked that a lot. Dr. Seifi was so pleasant and easy to communicate my dental concerns to, that I have never seen another dentist in the past 13 years. The office just always made me feel welcome and safe.

In spring of 2017, I was offered a position at StarBrite Dental and when this new opportunity came up, I decided it would be a good change. After all, I was already very familiar with the staff and it felt like home in a way. So, I made the big decision to work here at StarBrite and take on the receptionist position. And it was a good decision!

I can now say I love being the receptionist! I get to meet so many nice people and I get to know them and learn about their lives and families. I enjoy chatting with them while they are in the waiting room. Actually, sometimes it feels more like a party than a dental reception area, with the patients chiming in and chatting with each other. This makes everyone feel more at ease, while they are waiting for their procedures. Now, when returning patients come in for their appointments, they greet me and say, “Hi Elaine!” It’s a good feeling!
