Kids Win Gold at USA National Championship of Acrobatic Gymnastics

Shawn and Nicole Powell, the son and daughter of StarBrite Dental's Dr. Maryam Seifi, won gold for their local gym, Xtreme Acro & Cheer at the USA National Championship of Acrobatic Gymnastics competition. The competition was held during the month of July in Greensboro, North Carolina. Additionally, Nicole and Shawn were chosen for the prestigious USA Team in 2018-19 where they will be representing USA Acrobatic Gymnastics in international competitions.

“I am so proud of my children,” Dr. Seifi said. “They've both worked so hard since they joined the team to make this happen. It makes me so happy to see them achieve their goals.”

In 2017, Nicole Powell won gold at the Acrobatic Gymnastics International Championships in Poland. She has trained in gymnastics since 2014. Shawn Powell, on the other hand, switched to gymnastics within this past year. Despite Shawn’s newness to the sport, and a few setbacks related to school requirements, the Powell duo claimed the top of the podium at this July’s USA Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Earlier this year the Powell duo won gold at their first international competition, the Acro Palooza, in Calagary Canada this past May.
