Total Smile Transformation – The Miracle of Veneers

It’s been said that a smile is a universal welcome. In every culture, a bright smile or a toothy grin are symbols of friendship and connection.

Yet, some people are too worried about how their teeth look to be willing to smile. They have attention on their appearance in photos or when meeting new people. Rather than simply being able to express their emotions comfortably, they have a tiny bit of attention on their teeth—which is unfortunate, because it affects their quality of life.

Some people are born with beautiful smiles. For others, a beautiful smile is just a dream. Maybe their teeth are spaced unevenly or perhaps they just aren’t shaped attractively. There might be minor orthodontic issues — some crowding or overlapping. Perhaps their smiles used to be beautiful but over time there’s been damage, such as discoloration or chipped teeth.

With today’s dentistry, there’s no reason that a beautiful smile should stay “just a dream.” With ceramic veneers, almost anyone can achieve attractive, bright teeth and a dazzling smile.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are slim shells of high-quality, medical-grade ceramic that are affixed to your teeth. They cover the front surface, creating a beautiful, even appearance. Veneers are a fast, simple way to completely transform your smile.

You’ve probably heard of “Lumineers” or maybe even “DaVinci veneers.” What are the differences between these? Well, the truth is, not much. They’re just brand names for veneers manufactured by different companies. The important thing isn’t necessarily the brand, but getting an exact cosmetic match for your particular smile.

Do you have just a couple of broken or cracked teeth? Veneers can be added just to those teeth and colored to match your other teeth. Are you unhappy with the shape of all your teeth? Veneers can create a uniform shape that you love.

You might suffer from stained teeth or overall discoloration. Veneers can make those problems disappear from sight. If you have spaces between your teeth or minor misalignments, rather than doing years of orthodontic treatment, those concerns can be eliminated in very short order.

Ceramic Veneers Started with the Movies

It might not surprise you that ceramic veneers got their start in the early days of Hollywood. When the studios began grooming individuals to become movie stars, not everyone had a stellar smile. Some way was needed to improve a star’s smile for the screen.

A dentist by the name of Dr. Charles Pincus developed a way to fasten ceramic covers on the stars’ teeth. Remember Shirley Temple’s pearly whites? Those were the work of Dr. Pincus. However, early veneers weren’t permanent; they had to be removed when eating or sleeping. It took 40 years for today’s system of fastening to be developed.

Getting Your New Veneers

Your new smile starts with precise measurement of your current teeth so that veneers can be manufactured to fit. Your teeth with be very lightly etched to create a rougher surface the veneer will bond tightly to. When the veneers are ready, they will be cemented to your teeth. A special light will be used to harden the cement quickly. Once this is done, the dentist will inspect your new smile carefully, ensuring everything fits just right.

Not every person is a candidate for veneers — if there are dental problems like root canals needed, decay or gum problems, those will need to be addressed first. But as soon as the teeth and gums are healthy, veneers can proceed.
